We play hard, and we play safe.
Rugby is a controlled, technical sport, and safety is coached from the first practice. Here is exactly how we protect players, and what we ask of every family.
Recognize and Remove.
If in doubt, sit them out.
Recognize and Remove
Any player with a suspected head injury comes off, no exceptions. Coaches and sideline adults are trained to spot the signs.
Minimum 14-day rest
Youth players rest a minimum of 14 days before a graduated return. Some international guidelines use 21 days for U18.
CDC Heads Up
We follow the CDC Heads Up concussion guidance for coaches, parents, and players.
Head Up, shoulder first
Our coaches teach Head Up tackling technique so the shoulder makes contact, not the head. Contact is introduced gradually as players are ready.
High tackles are forbidden
Tackles above the chest are strictly forbidden and penalized immediately. Control and technique come before everything.
SafeSport
USA Rugby SafeSport governs our club. Adult-to-minor communication is strictly for club activities, and any group with players has two or more adult admins.
Certified coaches
Every coach holds a USA Rugby certification, Level 1 at minimum, with Head Up training. Registration includes USA Rugby accident insurance.
Public park rules
We keep our fields family-friendly and follow public park rules: no alcohol, tobacco, or controversial-issue advertising at our sessions.
